Move-To-Improve (Presentation)

Passion Project Group Presentation

As you all know, we've started doing Passion Project 3 weeks ago (2 days per week). This week is the last week for all the passion project that we chose. I am here because I want to share what we've learnt from Move-To-Improve. Each group are given a task to create a 2-minute video/presentation and here is what we created:

Move-To-Improve (Goal Setting)

My Goal Setting
- My overall health goal is to improve my mood because it can help me to have a positive mindset and remind myself to keep going.

- To be fitter for sport like Volleyball, I want to improve my balance and strength to be able to pass the ball properly.

What should the average of 15 years old female be eating in a day?

How many calories do you need per day?
- To those who are moderately active needs 2000 to 2,400 calories per day.
- To those who aren't very active and not really doing activities daily needs about 1,800 calories.

How much protein, carbohydrates and fat do you need?
- 46 grams of protein is needed each day for a 15 year old female.
- 50% to 60% of carbohydrates (1,080 calories) should be in a 15 year old female.
- Nothing more than 30% of fats (540 calories) should be in a 15 year old female.

Move-To-Improve (Nutrition)

In Defense of Food
  • 1 thing I learned: One thing I learned is to look how much sugar is in the food that I am about to eat, to prevent diseases. I learned that flour has sugar and breaks into bits of glucose in your body.
  • 1 thing I am wondering about: I am wondering if how many natural sugars are there in fruits and vegetables.
Amount of sugars in each packaged of food

Reading Labels
1) What colors are on the label? Why do you think they chose these colors? The color is red-orange, black and white(the words). I think they chose these colors to make the buyers read it easier.

2) What images are on the label? Why do you think they chose these images? Water drops are the images on the label. I think they chose these images to let the buyers know that the drink will keep you hydrated.

3) What words are on the label? Why do you think they chose these words? The words on the label are Glaceau Vitamin Water, Peach-Pineapple and Nutrient enhanced water beverage. I think they chose these words to engage the buyers from buying their product.

Move-To-Improve (Fitness)

For the first day of Passion Project 2018, I am going to share to you what we've already done in Move-To-Improve.

Why have I chosen this project, and what do you hope to achieve? I have chosen this project to learn something new and improve myself for being fit. I am hoping to achieve the goals that I want to aim a long time ago.

What are some activities that you would like to do and/or things you would like to learn as part of your Passion Project?
  1. How to stay fit (exercises and fitness)
  2. What healthy food should we eat

What are your results from the fitness tests you have completed today?

Makey Makey

Introduction:
Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog! I am here to share what we've been learning in DTE for the last two weeks of term 3. We were given a task to create something that a person can control using other materials and the Makey Makey.

Makey Makey is a device that turn the everyday objects into touch pads and combine them with the internet. How does it work?...Makey Makey works through opening and closing circuit. The circuit is closed through a conductive object (wires, tinfoil, & yourself) that you connect with alligator clips.

DLO:
To play a game, we chose to make a controller. The controller that we did was quite different compared to a typical one. Our controller have similar features as the ordinary controller, but ours is in the shape of heart.

                   Front view                                                                                         Inside view

Reflection:
If you can remember from the past projects that we did, we are still in the same group. What we planned is to put foil at the bottom of the controller and use one wire to make it work. But that planned didn't go well so we asked Mr. Carter for his opinion on how we can make it work.

With his opinion, we were able to think of a new way on how will the controller work. Then we came up to this idea (cut small squares of tinfoil enough to cover the hole & cut short wires enough to fit inside and tape it in the foil) for the inside. For the outside/front view, we decided to cover the hole with clay since it's conductor.

The next step that we are suppose to do is fix the wires inside and put the Makey Makey in, design it and use it. It's a little sad that we didn't finish and play with it, but we at least tried to managed our time working on it.

Resources:
     Materials we used:
  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Pencil
  • Tinfoil
  • Wires
  • Clay

Question:
If you are about to create something with Makey Makey, what will it do? Can it also play a game like a controller?

Persuasive Essay Questions

When we finished the lesson 'Shakespeare', we went back on writing a persuasive writing/essay. Our teacher from the English class, Mr. Aitken, taught us on how to write a proper essay and how to be creative in it.
