Action Plans

What can we do?!

These are the action plans that we have created for our project focusing on helping people who are suffering from Domestic Violence in our community.

Steps needed to achieve the goal.
What will help us achieve this goal?(Enablers)
Possible barriers and how they could be overcome.
Who is responsible for this step?
Date this step will be achieved by.
We will do a carwash for our fundraising on 27th & 28th of November in Hornby Primary and we will go house to house carwash on 25th of November.

We will ask permission to our parents and in the school to allow us to go and do our fundraising.

We will have the equipment that we will be needing for this.

We will also give our best to explain so our parents and the school can allow us to go.

Our parents or the school might not allow us to go but we will keep on talking and we will explain to them why we need to go until they allow us to go.
Devie, Roanne, Thamhie, and Lahtia
The day we asked our parents and the school if we’re allowed to go.

We will going to send an email to the Women’s Refuge Org. to ask if they can support us in this project.

By working together as a team and getting things done.

If the Women’s Refuge Org. will not approve our action and they will not allow us to give our help to those who are suffering from Domestic Violence, we will keep on sending them an email.

Devie, Roanne, Thamhie, and Lahtia
The day when the women’s refuge organization approved our proposal.

We will now do our job which is the carwash in Hornby Primary and the house to house carwash outside the school.

We will going to knock the door and ask them if they need a carwash.
We need to have confidence to do this job and if there are some students/friends that want to help us do the fundraising, work will be a lot easier to do.

They might say no when we ask them but we will keep on going to talk to them until they allow us to do it.
Devie, Lahtia, Roanne, and Thamhie
Possible week 8

We will going to buy something for the victims by using the money that we collected from our fundraising.

After that, we are going to give the gifts to the victims of Domestic Violence with the help of the Women’s Refuge Org.
We need to be creative from the gifts that we will give to them.
If the Women’s Refuge Org. doesn’t want us to give our gifts to the victims personally, we will just give our gifts to the Women’s Refuge Org so that they can our gifts to them.

~The impact does this have on your well being and overall survival is that we will be more full than the others because we have more food than them.

If you could barter with a group, what item would it be and why?
~If I could barter with a group, it would be the food that are rich in Iodine that will help our brain to function well.

PBL Domestic Violence

At Hornby High School, we have been doing PBL (Project Base Learning). We've been asked how we can have a positive impact on our community? We formed a group called "LA.RO.T.VIE" that came from our names. These group inlcudes Me, Roanne, Lahtia and Thamhie. To do this first we had to choose a topic. Me and my group chose Domestic Violence because it is something that we think affects too many people, not just in our community but also in the whole world specially women. We would like to find some way to make a difference.

To help us understand Domestic Violence further we needed to find websites that gave us information on what is what and what you can do. Here is a list of the websites we found:

Website Name

Date we accessed site
Abuse Hurts

Wikipedia

Women's Refuge

World Health Organization

New Zealand Police

We then had to answer some questions about our topic:
Who is affected: Women and men, Adolescents, and Children
What are the issues? Injured, sick, suicide, and negative impact on community
When did it start and how has it progressed? Prior to the mid-1800's, most legal systems viewed wife beating as a valid exercise of a husband’s authority over his wife. One exception, however, was the 1641 Body of Liberties of the Massachusetts Bay colonists, which declared that a married woman should be “free from bodily correction or stripes by her husband.”
Where is this happening? This happens worldwide.
Why is this happening? Domestic Violence is happening because of the build-up tensions and a breakdown in communication. Stress and state in life or poverty are one of the biggest reason why domestic violence happens.

Then we had to say what we plan to do to help solve the issue:

We will first contact Women's Refuge Organization to ask if there are some victims of Domestic Violence in Hornby. If there are some, we would like to persuade other students in our school to come with us. We can suggest Women's Refuge to perform that their education programmes here in Hornby.
