Move-To-Improve (Presentation)

Passion Project Group Presentation

As you all know, we've started doing Passion Project 3 weeks ago (2 days per week). This week is the last week for all the passion project that we chose. I am here because I want to share what we've learnt from Move-To-Improve. Each group are given a task to create a 2-minute video/presentation and here is what we created:

Thursday, 22 November 2018

Move-To-Improve (Goal Setting)

My Goal Setting
- My overall health goal is to improve my mood because it can help me to have a positive mindset and remind myself to keep going.

- To be fitter for sport like Volleyball, I want to improve my balance and strength to be able to pass the ball properly.

What should the average of 15 years old female be eating in a day?

How many calories do you need per day?
- To those who are moderately active needs 2000 to 2,400 calories per day.
- To those who aren't very active and not really doing activities daily needs about 1,800 calories.

How much protein, carbohydrates and fat do you need?
- 46 grams of protein is needed each day for a 15 year old female.
- 50% to 60% of carbohydrates (1,080 calories) should be in a 15 year old female.

Move-To-Improve (Nutrition)

In Defense of Food
  • 1 thing I learned: One thing I learned is to look how much sugar is in the food that I am about to eat, to prevent diseases. I learned that flour has sugar and breaks into bits of glucose in your body.
  • 1 thing I am wondering about: I am wondering if how many natural sugars are there in fruits and vegetables.
Amount of sugars in each packaged of food

Reading Labels
1) What colors are on the label? Why do you think they chose these colors? The color is red-orange, black and white(the words). I think they chose these colors to make the buyers read it easier.

2) What images are on the label? Why do you think they chose these images? Water drops are the images on the label. I think they chose these images to let the buyers know that the drink will keep you hydrated.

3) What words are on the label? Why do you think they chose these words? The words on the label are Glaceau Vitamin Water, Peach-Pineapple and Nutrient enhanced water beverage. I think they chose these words to engage the buyers from buying their product.

For the first day of Passion Project 2018, I am going to share to you what we've already done in Move-To-Improve.

Why have I chosen this project, and what do you hope to achieve? I have chosen this project to learn something new and improve myself for being fit. I am hoping to achieve the goals that I want to aim a long time ago.

What are some activities that you would like to do and/or things you would like to learn as part of your Passion Project?
  1. How to stay fit (exercises and fitness)
  2. What healthy food should we eat

What are your results from the fitness tests you have completed today?

Makey Makey

Introduction:
Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog! I am here to share what we've been learning in DTE for the last two weeks of term 3. We were given a task to create something that a person can control using other materials and the Makey Makey.

Makey Makey is a device that turn the everyday objects into touch pads and combine them with the internet. How does it work?...Makey Makey works through opening and closing circuit. The circuit is closed through a conductive object (wires, tinfoil, & yourself) that you connect with alligator clips.

DLO:
To play a game, we chose to make a controller. The controller that we did was quite different compared to a typical one. Our controller have similar features as the ordinary controller, but ours is in the shape of heart.

                   Front view                                                                                         Inside view

Reflection:
If you can remember from the past projects that we did, we are still in the same group. What we planned is to put foil at the bottom of the controller and use one wire to make it work. But that planned didn't go well so we asked Mr. Carter for his opinion on how we can make it work.

With his opinion, we were able to think of a new way on how will the controller work. Then we came up to this idea (cut small squares of tinfoil enough to cover the hole & cut short wires enough to fit inside and tape it in the foil) for the inside. For the outside/front view, we decided to cover the hole with clay since it's conductor.

The next step that we are suppose to do is fix the wires inside and put the Makey Makey in, design it and use it. It's a little sad that we didn't finish and play with it, but we at least tried to managed our time working on it.

Resources:
     Materials we used:
  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Pencil
  • Tinfoil
  • Wires
  • Clay

Question:
If you are about to create something with Makey Makey, what will it do? Can it also play a game like a controller?

Growing NZ Innovation Challenge

Hi everyone! For the past 5 weeks of term three, we have been working on this project. In this blog, I am going to share my experience with developing and understanding the issues and effects of growing an industry. The class was split into six groups and those groups contained 3-4 people. There are Wardah, Ofa, Roanne and me in the group. Each group needs to take a challenge with a problem and will make a solution about it. Our group have chosen the topic 'Careers and Capabilities', the problem was 'The primary sector is struggling to seek for young people to reach capability requirements to ensure that agri-science and business industry remain sustainable and productive' and our group challenge was to develop a solution for what the primary sector needs to do attract more youth to the agri-science and business industries. Then a solution came up with the group, and it is to use big data and virtual reality to publicize and nurture agri-science and business industries.

A presentation that was made by our group about the topic 'Careers and Capabilites'.

Reflection
As we do this project, I can say that we really worked hard for it, because each of every members laid their time and efforts in it. We are very contented and happy that we finished the project successfully. All of the stress and worries changed into a peaceful mind and bright smiles. We did have struggles from the time that we chose the topic until the day we presented it to the class. We as a group, we're proud of what we have accomplished, especially of Ofa, our group leader. She managed to handle the project and the group.

For me, the hardest part of undertaking this project was the time when we are doing our prototype which is the VR box. It took us one and half an hour to complete it, but the result is worthy. The group also had trouble on researching about the topic, but a huge thanks to our teacher Mr. Carter who gave us an idea to sort it out. At the beginning, the group was a little bit confused. But Mr. Carter made us understand about what we actually need to do.

It is hard for the group to adjust because, we didn't have Wardah during the time that we are doing the project. Although she didn't worked with us, at least she had a part on choosing the topic at the start. On the day that we presented, I felt a little bit nervous. However, that nervousness inside me, vanished. We confidently showed our presentation to the class and we are well pleased for their feedback. This experience was challenging for the group and also for the class. There is one thing I learned about this lesson, it is the importance of agri-science and business industry.

"Having friends is more important than having money"

In today's reality world, people seem to value money more than friends. Money can't get you love and comfort, but a friend can. It doesn't matter how much money you have if you aren't able to share the joy with your friends, all that money is in vain. Friends can turn your boring life into an enjoyable experience. The good times spent with friends become a memory that we will treasure for the lifetime.

Friends listen to us, understand us and give us advice every time they sense us in difficulty. We all feel low sometimes due to our insecurities and self-doubts, friends offer us a shoulder to cry on when we need it the most. Whenever life seems too hard or unfair, friends provide us with the much-required comfort. They kick away the depressing loneliness which burdens our minds.

It is true that money can bring you happiness but only short-term happiness. There are many things that you can buy with money. Nonetheless, it will not give you the true happiness. Money can never give you a person whom you can trust, will always be with you and love you unconditionally. On the other hand, having friends is like having a family. There is no room for formalities. It is where you can be yourself doing things together.

"What I have learnt about composing techniques"

Over the past few weeks of term three, in our music class, we have been composing songs. We already composed music about advertising a product, Christmas song, and also a romance song for film music. Honestly, composing a song and music is hard. You need to be creative and really understand what you are writing. One of the techniques I have learned about composing a song/music is rhyming. Rhyming the words is much easier for me to write a piece of a song.

Here is a short piece of our composed Christmas song:
Verse 1:
Every hearts needs home at Christmas
Everyone deserves love at Christmas
So let the kindness live in us all
And then let everyone feed their souls

Chorus:
This is the time for loving
This is the time for giving
This is the time (2x)
All we need is sharing
To everyone needs caring
This is the time (2x)

"Summer Is The Best Season Of The Year"

"Summer is the best season of the year"

There are four seasons we know on Earth, the Summer, the Autumn, the Winter and the Spring. In summer, days are longer and nights are shorter. It is the hottest season among the four seasons. Summer is one of people’s favorite season because they can do whatever they want. They can make a lot of things to do in the summer. They could go to the beach to relax and be refreshed, could go for a long drive, could take a day for hiking or camping, make ice cream and more. In summer, they could also wear clothes that they can’t wear on other seasons.

"School Is The Best Place To Make Mistakes"

In my perspective, School is one of the place you can make mistakes. Other places could be at home or anywhere else. Making mistakes usually happens to a person and it could either start with you nor others. I guess making mistakes is optional, it is either people accidentally make mistakes or people choose to make mistakes even though they know how the result will be.

Is School the best place to make mistakes? Well I think it is best to make mistakes at school because you are able to learn and realize what you did wrong and the good thing is that someone will help you about it. For example, your mistake is that you had an attitude correcting the teacher. Then realize that they had many years of learning and knowledge behind their words and actions, and that knowledge is what drives them. What you can do to rectify this mistake is to apologize to the teacher and treat them politely and respectfully.

It is alright to make mistakes. It wouldn’t fail you to aim high and it will not stop you from pursuing your goals, nonetheless it will teach and guide you through it. Not only students make mistakes. Everyone in this world does because no one is perfect. So don’t be afraid to make mistakes as it will help you grow and be successful.

My Spiritual well-being / Taha Wairua

  1. What I think about spiritual well-being before I started this unit was it's all about religion and beliefs.
  2. After I've learnt what spiritual well-being is, it is all about your values, beliefs, goals, religion, dreams, self worth, traditions and who you are which means your identity.
  3. Everyone does have different spiritual well-being because they have different beliefs in their own sense.
  4. The area of spiritual well-being that I need to improve on are my goals because I want to be successful in the future and my self worth so that I won't be afraid to tell or share my thoughts or ideas anymore.
  5. My goals about education is to finish school with high grades and go to university and my goal about life is to be a successful doctor.

What I learnt today (Physical well-being)

  • Today I learnt about the four dimensions of well-being/hauora:
  1. Physical well-being                                            Taha tinana
  2. Spiritual well-being                                            Taha wairua
  3. Social well-being                                                Taha whanau
  4. Mental and Emotional well-being                      Taha hinengaro
  • My physical well-being is in great condition.
  • The things that I do well to look after my taha tinana are:
  1. Exercise my body (stretching and jogging)
  2. Give my body a wash (bath or shower)
  3. Eat fish, vegetables and drink a lot of water
  • This dimension is one of the 4 dimensions that I don't need to work on.

The Snowman and The Snow Dog

  1. Did you still understand the story without dialogue? Yes I did! I still understand the story without dialogue.
  2. How did the music add to telling the story? The music did a really huge part on telling the story, the music makes you feel different emotions which is related to the story.
  3. Write about a scene that you found particularly interesting. I loved and enjoy the scene where the snowman and the snow dog became alive, the music was really heart melting and exciting!

"Modal verb practice - Term 3 plan"

1. Have to do this term
2. Need to do this term
3. Should do this term
4. Could do this term
5. Might do this term

There are lots of things I have to do this term, I need to be focus and concentrated to my learning/studies so that I can get the achievement I want to aim. What I could do is to read more and understand the text deeply, improve my vocabulary, enhance my writing and continuing to boost my confident for what I am doing. I might also do my advance reading now so I can increase my knowledge and to do all of this, I should be prepared and ready.

William Shakespeare

In the past few days of our English class, we have been studying William Shakespeare. We are learning his life and history because he had made a huge contribution in the English language. Our class has been given a task to read an article about him and answer the questions. We are to create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) to show our understanding of William Shakespeare. I want to know if William Shakespeare performed in any of his own plays? and Are Shakespeare's works written in Old English?
